Music suggestions for parental mental wellbeing

Here is the place to find instant music for mental wellbeing - no apps, and no downloads - just suggested/example playlists of license-free and original music. Please browse below!!

These playlists can be used by parents if they like them (music is personal so everyone's taste is different). It's actually the ideas shared under each playlist which are the most important (research-based) bit. This music can also be used with the individual resources on our resources page if license-free music is needed (for example, in a public venue). Practitioners might want to sprinkle the ideas onto their everyday work with families. The tracks are all copyright free and can be used anywhere. No music license is needed!! The playlists are 15-60 mins long to give everyone plenty of musical content.

Background Music
(running time 20 mins)

Playing background music has been shown to reduce anxiety in those attending GPs, hospitals, clinics, etc. How about popping this playlist on before a parent group or event starts? See what parents think of it. When the session is due to begin, fade out the music and welcome the group. A nice containing musical routine.

Relaxation Music
(running time 60 mins)

Nearly 60 mins of calm vibes for rest and relaxation. Great for relaxation exercises, body scans, relaxation stories, and just simply resting! See HERE for suggested activities.

Baby Watching Music
(running time 15 mins)

This lovely music can help parents practise baby watching as part of a parent/baby group or at home. Just a few minutes of baby watching can help parents feel like they're getting to know their babies, and support their growing relationship.

Please find baby watching activities and ideas HERE.

Music for Breathing

(running time 15 mins)

Music for practising breathing exercises with parents and little ones. From square (or TV) breathing, finger breathing, balloon breathing, breathing and humming, to simply listening in to our breathing ... this music can be played quietly in the background to provide a gentle focus.

Moving Around Music
(running time 15 mins)

Lovely latin vibes with upbeat rhythms! Perfect for moving around with little ones, to change the energy, help unsettled babies (and parents!), and help parents have a little break. Nice music to use during breaks or if all the babies start crying at the same time! Can help lighten the mood and reassure anxious parents that it's OK!
