FirstMusicUK (FM) is a UK-based non-profit organisation providing music to support parental mental wellbeing. This privacy and data protection policy explains how FM uses the personal data we collect from you when you use our website. Topics covered by this policy:

What data do we collect?
FM collects the following data:

  • Personal identification information (name, email address, category (eg. Parent, researcher, interested individual), location (town/city)
  • Date of baby’s birth (if relevant)

How do we collect your data?
You directly provide FM with the data we collect. We collect data and process data when you:

  • Subscribe to our newsletter via the website or social media channels, or when you ask to subscribe by email.
  • Register online for training or place an order for any of our products or services.
  • Voluntarily complete a customer survey or provide feedback on any of our channels.
  • Use or view our website via your browser’s cookies.
  • Sign-up and give data collection consent for a FM research study.

How will we use your data?
FM collects your data so that we can:

  • Send out short, informative, and relevant emails.
  • Process your order and manage your account.
  • Understand the groups of people participating in our research studies.
  • We DO NOT use advertising or marketing cookies and DO NOT share your data with third parties. 

How do we store your data?
FM securely stores your data in an encrypted vault on a FM laptop. A back-up copy is kept on an encrypted disk in a locked metal filing cabinet at FM’s address.

FM will keep your data for 10 years. Once this time period has expired, we will delete your data by using a specialist digital file shredder. Any paper consent forms collected for FM’s research will be securely shredded before disposal using a cross-shredding machine.

Marketing
FM would like to send you news about resources, research, products, and services of ours that we think you might like. You will only receive this if you have explicitly subscribed to FM. If you have subscribed to our newsletter, you can always opt out at a later date. You have the right at any time to stop FM from contacting you for marketing purposes. 

What are your data protection rights?
FM would like to make sure you are fully aware of all of your data protection rights. Everyone who gives us their data is entitled to the following:

The right to access – You have the right to request FM for copies of your personal data. 

The right to rectification – You have the right to request that FM correct any information you believe is inaccurate. You also have the right to request FM to complete the information you believe is incomplete.

The right to erasure – You have the right to request that FM erase your personal data, under certain conditions.

The right to restrict processing – You have the right to request that FM restrict the processing of your personal data, under certain conditions.

The right to object to processing – You have the right to object to FM’s processing of your personal data, under certain conditions.

The right to data portability – You have the right to request that FM transfer the data that we have collected to another organisation, or directly to you, under certain conditions.
